The Kindle app on the iPad is amazing. For indoor reading I'd much rather use the iPad. For outdoor reading the Kindle screen is still best as the glare on the iPad glass is significant. I'll continue to use both devices for different reading situations. You must be a slow reader if you think an iPad runs the battery down in half a chapter.
